The room, stay and staff at Santa Catalina only added to the experience. We even hired a fisherman for a day to take us to an uninhabited island after which we ate at his "fonda", little cafe, at his home. The surrounding area is very local with a couple of excellent restaurants. The beach there is beautiful, great for surfing and the stars bright in the immensely dark sky. The stay at Santa Catalina was probably one of the best experiences I have had in many great experiences in Panama. The bus goes through Santa Catalina however, for our particular trip there, we road with our local friends. It is a very humble, dependable and inexpensive way to travel that is pure Panama.
To ZZMorgan's comment: We love travelling by bus in Panama however, it is not for everyone.
